Wine Walk Goes to the Dogs

Dogs and Wine

We were part of another 3rd Thursday Wine Walk on September 16, 2010. Once again we were the pleased guests of Davenport Cellars, nestled in the Woodinville Warehouse Winery District amongst 20 other winery shops.

This month’s theme was “Bottles and Dogs”. A ticket bought entry for you and your best friend (a 2-for-1 with the caveat that your best friend has fuzzy ears and a tail!), as well as the satisfaction of having made a donation to animal rescue. We think that’s an excellent cause worth supporting. And it was really fun having so many doggy visits during the event. (But NO chocolate for dogs, it’s toxic for them!!)

There were lots of dogs and dog lovers. Those of you from the Seattle area already know that we are a dog-happy lot, and a dog-friendly public event is greatly appreciated by 2-footed and 4-footed attendees.

Aaron (our chocolatier) found a favorite in Bailey, part of the Davenport Cellar’s family. He’s of Great Dane dimensions and heritage, along with (“we think”) wire-hair something or other (he’s not a dog-breeder, he’s a chocolatier!). A curious two-tier aspect of his coat makes him especially attractive. He’s beautifully sleek, BUT with a fine mist of gray and white wirey hair sticking up all over from his sleekness! Love it!

Runner up: That oversized Saint Bernard puppy that gazed at us with his chocolate eyes. Gangly, adorable, puppy-love.

Walking for Wine Benefits Performing Arts

Walking Wines at Country Village

On August 28th, 2010 (last month already?) we hung out in Bothell, WA with about 20 wineries at the Country Village Shops. Lest you begin to think we hang around with a partyin’ crowd too often, this one was for a good cause! Benefiting the Northshore Performing Arts Center, the proceeds from the entry tickets not only bought visitors a great afternoon strolling and sipping lots of different wines and tasties (like Intrigue Truffles), but also went to supporting the Arts. What some would say defines our humanity and instructs our sensibilities. Now that’s a cause worth supporting, eh?

We had fun, too. Met lots of great folks and learned a thing or two about local wines from the winemakers on hand. We’re giving props to the Woodinville Warehouse Wineries (primary organizers of the event) for incorporating sustainable practices into the day: visitors were asked to BYOG (bring your own glass), in an attempt to save on waste with dinky, plastic throw-aways. We think that’s cool.

Sanity of September (& monthly flavs)

With the beginning of Fall we always feel like those first drafts of cooling air bring with them a return to sanity. Behind us for a while are the maddening tropical temperatures of summer. You know it’s true, nothing like a hot summer’s night to bring out the wildness in all of us….. And, hey, that was fun and all. But thank goodness it’s only temporary insanity!

Reassuring as the passing of the seasons, you can always count on Intrigue Chocolates to give you quality, chocolate-y goodness.

Saint Basil Truffle

Saint Basil Truffle -Healing and delicious, fresh organic basil is an herb of the ages.

Peaches & Cream Truffle

Peaches & Cream Truffle – Fresh peaches (and as always the high-grade dairy cream used in most all of our truffles). The epitome of summer-ending-flavors; juice-drippin’-down-your-chin ripeness enhanced by thick creaminess, and a sprinkle of sugar on top.

Utah Basin Salt Truffle

Utah Basin Salt Truffle -Ancient salt deposits harvested from this area have over 30 trace minerals present to give a complex flavor. You know it well, it is salt. Yet this salt, usually pink in color, is utterly unique in the taste it imparts to this truffle.

Tequila-Lime Truffle

Tequila-Lime Truffle -Cazadores Anejo, fresh organic lime zest…Did you know that fine tequila is most properly sipped from a snifter, not “shot”? Made from the agave plant and tempered with a squeeze of lime, tequila in chocolate is a purely original experience.

California Bay Truffle

California Bay Truffle -Pungent, eucalyptus-like aroma and flavor of the this truffle are unmistakable. The California Bay Leaf is not your mother’s bay leaf!

Chipotle Truffle

Chipotle Truffle - Roasted jalapenos make you take notice of this spicy truffle. Smoke-dried chilis are an inspiration of our friends South of the Border. And we thank them!

Embrace the cool weather and celebrate with Intrigue’s September flavors!
