This annual event—in its fourth year—was a bonanza of excellent wines to be tasted and fabulous shoes to be bought at auction. The crowd was dressed to the nines and excited about the shoes that were auctioned off by local television news personality John Curly. The event was a fundraiser to benefit the Ryther Child Center, which “offers and develops safe places and opportunities for children, youth and families to heal and grow so that they can reach their highest potential”.
Out of the 30 great regional wineries represented, we were lucky enough to have our table snugged up next to the fine folks from Windy Point Vineyards. We are always glad to run into these nice folks who are congenial about “working” with us to discover great pairings of Intrigue Truffles with their delicious wines. This time we struck upon an incredible match between our “Orange you glad…” truffle and their “2006 Yakima Valley ‘!’ (Exclamation Point is the name of the wine). This dark wine is a blend of Cabernet Franc and Merlot, its tease of leather lending itself beautifully to bringing out the best of the orange zest and dark rum of our truffle. You gotta’ try it!
It’s that time of year again: our table generated a lot of excitement over the ease of ordering Intrigue Truffles online. Eliciting exclamations of “this would make a great Christmas gift!”. (And it would indeed, hint, hint!)
Rooibos Truffle – Also known as African Red Bush (Aspalathus linearis), this ancient curative has been used as a healing infusion and is high in cell-protecting antioxidants. Grown only in South Africa, rooibos is naturally sweet and gives a nutty-smoky taste with a touch of tartness.
Saint Basil Truffle – Using fresh organic basil (Ocimum basilicum) as always, giving a hint of clove-like flavor, this ancient symbol of love has been cultivated in the middle-east for 5,000 years.
Jamaican Hot Chocolate Truffle - Rum, honey, vanilla, nutmeg and habanero chili. Aaron’s very first truffle creation, and still one of our most popular truffles.
Pie R Round Truffle -This will remind you of grandma’s kitchen, with cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cloves, allspice rolling around together you’ll remember your childhood and good things baking.
Cacao Truffle – Not a misspelling of cocoa, but rather where it comes from. Cacao, or Theobroma cacao, is the plant from which all things chocolate come. Its inclusion here in the form of organic fair-trade cacao nibs, along with white rum, adds extra chocolate top-notes to an already dark chocolate.
Orange You Glad Truffle – All jokes aside, fresh orange zest and dark rum will make you glad to eat this truffle!
